Melanie Taylor, BASc, MEng
Melanie has two degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a diverse professional background that includes managing health and safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a family-owned design and manufacturing environment; business start-up and operation in the retail and training sectors; and governance of an acute-care hospital undergoing Lean transformation. Through her education and experience she has developed knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership, sales, business management, continuous improvement, auditing, governance, and strategic planning.
It was through the start-up and operation of her own business that Melanie learned that positive business results are achieved through investing in your employees, setting a clear direction, providing effective coaching, listening to what your customers are really saying, and holding yourself accountable.
Melanie has been a member of the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Board of Governors since 2009, currently serving as Board Chair, and as Chair of the President and CEO Search Committee, is leading the search for the organization’s new leader. Melanie is also a member of the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation Board, has previously volunteered as a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Thomas-Elgin, and served on the Board of an independent childcare centre.
