On April 21st, Kristina Schmitt volunteered with the St. Thomas & District Chamber of Commerce as part of its Meet the Makers event. The job fair educated people about the need and job opportunities for trades in the area. There is a severe lack of trades people available to fill current positions and positions in the future, so as a Chamber, in collaboration with the Workforce Planning and Development Board and Fanshawe College, they have started an initiative to educate people and organizations on how to get into the trades, the importance of trades, and the importance of taking on apprentices. They’re continuing this effort at the St. Thomas Home Show being held at the Joe Thornton Community Centre June 3-5.
