In 2008, business was going well. Callright was growing again, TAC had 10 Affilliates plus a number of Value Added Resellers (VARs) from CTDG days and it seemed like a good time for Wayne to take a break. Since 1999, he had learned he had Spinal Muscular Atrophy – a degenerative muscle disease that was weakening his legs and causing mobility challenges. He and his wife Dawna decided to take a six month sabbatical and travel around North America in a small RV. They left in March and travelled as far south as the Mexican border, North to Edmonton and east to Newfoundland. Along the way, Wayne interviewed former business owners who had successfully sold their businesses. These discussions formed the beginnings of a new book on business transition.
Unfortunately, while Wayne was away, things did not run as smoothly as anticipated and he came home to a number of problems that had to be resolved. So after six months of pleasant travel, he entered six months of stress and challenge in getting the businesses back on track.
